The Intrepid is located in New York. The USS Intrepid is also called "The Fighting I." It was a war ship and was used for World War II. This massive ship is 873' and weighs 24,580 tons. In this blog, you will learn about some of the aircraft's and different decks.
Aircraft Douglas A-4B Skyhawk
The Douglas A-4B Skyhawk is located on the Flight Deck on the Intrepid. A nickname for it was “Heinemann’s Hot Rod" for setting a world speed record of 695 mph in 1954. This aircraft was used for Attack aircraft's, light fighter, and aggressor. It played in the Vietnam War, Yom Kippur War and the Falklands war. It had lots of bombs and weapons on the plane, it was very fast(made a record) and is half the weight of most aircraft's! This plane was used for two years.
The Mess Deck
The mess deck is where the soldiers can eat and socialize. Intrepid's 3,000 crew members ate there. This was important because the soldiers had to have a place to eat. All soldiers were welcomed on the mess deck. They would go there, three times a day. This deck was massively important because it allowed soldiers to maintain a normal life style.
Three things I learned:
1.The Intrepid fought in World War II.
This is important because the World War II is a big thing in our history. People should know this because without the Intrepid, a lot of people wouldn't be living the life they have now.
2. The Intrepid carried many air crafts in it.
This is important because the air crafts helped fought in the war and the Intrepid was where they could store the air crafts. People should know this because the air crafts fought in the war and helped us win, and now people can know where the air crafts were stored.
3. About 3,500 men were soldiers on the Intrepid.
3,500 men were on the Intrepid and fought for the U.S.A. That was the first time the Intrepid sailed off to fight, with 3,500 men aboard. People should know this because some of the soldiers in war was on the Intrepid. Intrepid played an important role not only to war, but a place for soldiers to eat sleep and find comfort.
